Después de sacar al mercado el notable Light & Shade en 2005 y el recopilatório The Platinum Collection en 2006 Mike Oldfield vuelve con este nuevo trabajo que incluirá 12 nuevos temas y dos reprises. Al parecer el estilo del disco seguirá en la línea de los últimos trabajos del músico británico pero utilizando esta vez instrumentación tradicional lo que le dará un aire algo más similar al de sus primeros trabajos.
El propio Mike Oldfield define así su nueva creación:

In this world, everything has a pulse or a vibration. This sound is unique to each living or non living thing and in itself creates a music that no-one can hear. I believe that this has a very powerful resonance with, and a deep effect, on our lives. What would happen if we took this further and apply this to bigger things , more powerful things ; like an entire solar system or galaxy say, what would that sound like?
Musica Universalis is the ancient theory that every celestial body, the sun, the moon and the stars has an inner music. This is a harmonic and mathematical concept derived from the movements of the planets in the solar system. The music created is inaudible to the human ear.
Music of the Spheres is my interpretation of this theory. Every planet and every star; even the whole universe has music within it that no-one can hear, this is what it would sound like if it was set free. This is Music of the Spheres.

La fecha de salida en el Reino Unido esta fijada en el día 12 de Noviembre. Aún se desconoce cuando saldrá en el resto de Europa pero lo más normal es que saliera a la venta el mismo día (en dos formatos: en CD y en memória USB).

Parece que Music of the Spheres será el disco, a priori, según los comentarios de Mike, que tanto hemos esperado los seguidores más acérrimos: Un instrumental largo.
Aunque en su afán por hacer cosas nuevas, cediendo los instrumentos, salvo las guitarras que las seguirá tocando, a la orquesta y los fantásticos colaboradores que tendrá: Karl Jenkinks en la orquestación y producción, Hayley Westenra como vocalista y el virtuoso chino Lang Lang al piano.
Ojalá este disco cumpla las grandes expectativas creadas hasta hoy.

Esperemos que de verdad sea un gran álbum y volvamos a ver a Mike Oldfield aclamado por crítica y público (aunque a pesar de las críticas a mi personalmente me gustan sus últimos trabajos).
Sea como sea el 12 de Noviembre me haré con él ya que casi seguro que no me decepcionará :D .
